Shalom Health Care Center Announces Purchase of 3400 Lafayette Road

Purchase paves the way for enhanced health care services for the uninsured on Indy’s west side

Indianapolis, IN – Shalom Health Care Center, a not-for-profit Federally Qualified Health Center offering primary care services to the uninsured and underinsured of Indianapolis’ west side, announced today the purchase of 3400 Lafayette Road. Shalom CEO Dr. Leonardo Ortega made the announcement.

“For more than a decade, Shalom has been providing health care at 3400 Lafayette Road to people who can’t otherwise afford it. After years of renting, we thought it was time for us to become homeowners,” Ortega said. “By purchasing the building, we can provide an even higher level of service to the community. We are very excited to join the hundreds of small businesses and nonprofits and thousands of residents who call the International Marketplace area their home.”

The property at 3400 Lafayette Road is a 28,000-square-foot building that is occupied by the WorkOne career and employment resource center on the first floor and Shalom Health Care Center on the second floor. Together, the building receives an average of more than 2,500 visits per week from Shalom’s and WorkOne’s consumers.

Shalom’s acquisition of 3400 Lafayette Road officially closed on Thursday, October 23, 2014. There are no immediate plans for redevelopment, although various structural/mechanical and cosmetic upgrades are expected in the coming months.

Founded in 1994 to meet the needs of medically underserved Indianapolis residents, Shalom Health Care Center operates one primary care center and 16 school-based health clinics in Indianapolis and Speedway. For more than 20 years, Shalom has worked to reduce health disparities by achieving excellence in primary health care, community leadership, and openness to serving all people.
