Management
Dr Ortega has 29 years of experience in management of health care delivery systems and public health management. He is a trained Physician from Central University of Venezuala and holds a Masters Degree in Public Health from Johns Hopkins University School of Public Health. He was appointed as Shalom Healthcare Center CEO in 2012. Dr. Ortega is fluent in Spanish and English.
Dr. Wiersema is a board-certified family practice physician. She has more than 30 years clinical expertise since graduating Medical school in the former USSR. She previously treated patients at Community Health Medical Center; and also served as a physician with the United States Army, receiving the Meritorious Service medal for her care of troops. Dr. Wiersema treats patients of all ages and has special interest in diabetes, heart disease prevention, women health and medical procedures. She fluently speaks English and Russian.
Megan holds a Masters Degree in Nursing from West Virginia University School of Nursing. She has over nine years of nursing experience with six years as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. As the Chief Nursing Officer, Megan oversees the school-based clinic program and ancillary staff at two primary care locations.
Lyndsey Furry serves as Chief Clinical Officer at Shalom’s two primary care locations. Surviving cancer at eighteen years old inspired her passion for chronic disease prevention, chronic disease management, holistic approach to medicine, and access to affordable health care. She holds a master’s degree in nursing from Vanderbilt University School of Nursing, and she has nine years of nursing experience.
Mimi Beresky joined Shalom in 2010 and has held a variety of positions in front desk, scheduling, insurance navigation and Community Outreach. She was appointed to the Chief Operations Officer at Shalom in 2015 and was instrumental in the opening of the 56th St Clinic in 2016. She is fluent in English and Spanish and has worked with a diverse patient and employee population.
Michael “Andy” Niño joined Shalom in 2017 after serving eight years on the Board of Directors. He has extensive experience in the banking industry, most recently as Assistant Vice President Branch Manager with BMO Harris Bank. Andy is active in the community, serving on the boards of Fuller Center of Housing and Indiana Latino Expo. He is fluent in English and Spanish.
Darren Huff joined Shalom in 2017 with over 20 years experience in IT. He has worked for 13 years in senior administrative roles in community health centers managing facilities, human resources, and operations in addition to information technology. He graduated from DeVry University with a Bachelors of Science in Computer Information Systems.
Before joining Shalom in 2014, Morella served as Director of Multicultural Affairs at the Indiana Minority Health Coalition. She also served as Spanish/English Medical Interpreter at Wishard Health Services and Director of Production for the television program”Nuestra Musica” at Butler University. She has a BS in Telecommunications Arts from Butler University.
Staci Walters holds a Master’s Degree in Public Health. She joined Shalom in 2016 as QAQI Associate and advanced to QAQI Director. Her academic research in medical underserved areas and health professional recruitment and retention developed her passion for serving vulnerable populations.
