Management Team

Leonardo Ortega, M.D., M.P.H.

President and CEO
Dr. Ortega has over 30 years of experience in management of health care delivery systems and public health management. He is a trained Physician from Central University of Venezuela and holds a Masters Degree in Public Health from Johns Hopkins University School of Public Health. He was appointed as Shalom Health Care Center CEO in 2012. Dr. Ortega is fluent in Spanish and English.

Margarita Wiersema, M.D.

Chief Medical Officer
Dr. Wiersema is a board-certified family practice physician. She has more than 20 years of clinic expertise since graduating Medical School in the former USSR. She previously treated patients at Community Health Medical Center; and also served as a physician with the United States Army, receiving the Meritorious Service medal for her care of troops. Dr. Wiersema treats patients of all ages and has special interest in diabetes, heart disease prevention, women's health, and medical procedures. She fluently speaks English and Russian.

Mimi Beresky

Chief Operations Officer
Mimi Beresky joined Shalom in 2010 and has held a variety of positions in front desk, scheduling, insurance navigation and Community Outreach. She was appointed to the Chief Operations Officer at Shalom in 2015 and was instrumental in the opening of the 56th St Clinic in 2016. She is fluent in English and Spanish and has worked with a diverse patient and employee population.

Andy Nino

Chief Financial Officer
Michael “Andy” Niño joined Shalom in 2017 after serving eight years on the Board of Directors. He has extensive experience in the banking industry, most recently as Assistant Vice President Branch Manager with BMO Harris Bank. Andy is active in the community, serving on the boards of Fuller Center of Housing and Indiana Latino Expo. He is fluent in English and Spanish.

Staci Walters, MPH

Chief Quality and Compliance Officer
Staci Walters holds a Master’s Degree in Public Health. She joined Shalom in 2016 as QAQI Associate and advanced to QAQI Director. Her academic research in medical underserved areas and health professional recruitment and retention developed her passion for serving vulnerable populations.

Donna Vaughan, DBH, LMHC

Chief Behavioral Health Officer

Dr. Vaughan graduated from Ashland Theological Seminary with a Master of Science in Clinical Pastoral Counseling, and earned her doctorate in behavioral health at Arizona State University. She is a licensed mental health counselor in Indiana and Ohio, working in community mental health, private practice, and for federally qualified health centers.

Scott Curtiss

Chief Information Officer
With over 15 years of experience in IT healthcare, Scott has held several leadership roles in the field. Primarily his focus has been operations management for information technology. In addition to his previous experience as an IT Director, Scott is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP). He received his Management Information Systems degree in Michigan before relocating to Chicago. Scott spent several years in Asia working in the dental industry, helping to pioneer 3D printing for healthcare.

Teresa Driskell, MSN, FNP-BC

Chief Nursing Officer
Teresa holds a Master's Degree in Nursing as a Family Nurse Practitioner from Medical University of South Carolina after earning her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Indiana University. She has more than 25 years of nursing experience with more than two decades of practice as a nurse practitioner. As the Chief Nursing Officer, Teresa oversees the school-based clinic program and staff of nurses, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants.

Morella Dominguez

Chief Marketing and Development Officer
Before joining Shalom in 2014, Morella served as Director of Multicultural Affairs at the Indiana Minority Health Coalition. She also served as Spanish/English Medical Interpreter at Wishard Health Services and Director of Production for the television program”Nuestra Musica” at Butler University. She has a BS in Telecommunications Arts from Butler University.
